In recent years, the city of São Paulo has been experiencing significant urbanization, leading to increased traffic congestion and pollution. To address this issue, several cities have implemented strategies such as green spaces, bike lanes, and public transportation improvements. However, these efforts often result in higher vehicle usage, which can lead to higher shooting rates. This study aims to explore the relationship between the shooting rate in São Paulo and other cities in terms of factors such as population density, age distribution, and environmental characteristics. The analysis will be conducted using data from the Brazilian National Police (BNSP) database, which includes information on crime, traffic accidents,Football Hot Discussion Zone and firearms incidents. Methodology The study will use regression analysis to analyze the correlation between the shooting rate and various demographic and environmental variables. The data will be collected from the BNSP database for the period 2014-2019. The analysis will focus on the shooting rate by dividing it into different categories based on the type of firearm used (e.g., rifles, shotguns, etc.) and the location of the incident (urban or rural). Results The study found that there is a strong positive correlation between the shooting rate and population density in São Paulo. For example, the shooting rate in São Paulo was significantly higher in urban areas compared to rural areas. Additionally, the study also found that the shooting rate was positively correlated with the age distribution of the population in São Paulo, with older individuals being more likely to shoot. Conclusion Overall, the findings of this study suggest that the shooting rate in São Paulo is influenced by various factors including population density, age distribution, and environmental characteristics. These factors can impact the effectiveness of urban planning and infrastructure improvements. As urban development continues to grow, it is important to consider how these factors may affect shooting rates and prioritize measures that reduce gun violence.
